Now in our 15th year, Blas na hÉireann, The Irish Food Awards is the biggest competition for quality Irish produce on the island of Ireland. All roads led to Dingle last Friday, the 30th of September, for the first in person awards in two years. Cavan was well represented on the day with the “Created in Cavan” brand flying high. Members of the Created in Cavan food network that made it to the final were Ice Cream Treats, Drummully Boxty, Mary Ellens Meadow, Lakeland Dairies and Vanilla Bean Patisserie. Here are the awards they took home on the day.
Frozen Yogurt: Ice Cream Treats
Ice Cream treats took Bronze, Silver AND Gold for the Frozen yogurt category this year. Moo’d Mango Frozen Yogurt took Bronze, Yomega3 Vanilla took Silver and Yomega3 Raspberry took Gold! Congratulations to all the team in Ice Cream Treats!
Ready Meals and Prepared Foods- Potato: Drummully Boxty
Drummully Boxty fought off stiff competition to take home Gold in this category. Congratulations to all the team at Drummully Boxty.
Sweet Spreads: Vanilla Bean Patisserie
Vanilla Bean Patisserie took home another Gold for their popular Lime Fruit Curd this year! Congratulations to all the team at Vanilla Bean Patisserie.
Butter, Milk and Flavoured Milk- Lakeland Dairies
In the dairy section, Lakeland dairies picked up several awards for their products. Family favourites butter won bronze for the butter category. Champion milk picked up silver in the milk category and their Viva Vanilla Ice-cream flavoured milk picked up bronze. Congratulations to all at Lakeland Dairies.
Cavan’s food scene has been making waves across the Country in recent months. A big congratulations also needs to go to Cullys Craft Bakery on winning the ‘Grow with Aldi’ competition at the National Ploughing Championships. Their products will now be available in Aldi’s all over Ireland.
